Mold and Black Mold
When we hear the word MOLD it can bring many things to mind, such as allergic reactions and potential health problems. The truth is that Mold is naturally present all around us. There is no way to eliminate mold from our daily lives, but the key is to eliminate the factors that contribute to its growth indoors.
There are many types of mold, the most talked about is Stachybotrys Chartarum—or Black Mold. Black Mold produces allergens and irritants, but so do all other types of mold as well. Whatever type of Mold that is present should be treated with caution. Stay out of any affected areas and avoid touching the mold. Touching mold can lead to mold spores being released into the air and further spreading mold growth.
What can you do to prevent mold growth indoors?
- Keep indoor humidity levels below 45%
- Use air conditioners or a dehumidifier during humid months
- Be sure your home has adequate ventilation, including exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathrooms
- Do not carpet bathrooms
- Do not store basement items in cardboard boxes (cardboard can be a food source for mold in a damp or humid basement)
When water intrudes on your property, mold growth can begin in as little as 48 hours. Inspect your home regularly for water leaks or damage. Click Here to find more information and useful tips about mold and mold growth.
